Family Owned and Operated

Our family has been in the solid waste business since 1917 when Phillip Leichner (pictured) owned a route in Portland. In 1937 the company and family moved to Vancouver, Washington where Phillip purchased a garbage company.
Upon Phillip's death the four sons, Elmer, John, Robert, and Lorry began operating the business. In 1984 Lorry retired leaving only Elmer at Clark County Disposal, Inc. In 1986 Mike Leichner, son of Lorry Leichner, purchased Frank's Disposal in Tigard and incorporated it as Pride Disposal Company. In 1987 Mike relocated the business to its current facilities in Sherwood. The fourth generation of the Leichner family is also involved in the family business and hopes to continue the tradition.

Pride Disposal has been servicing the Sherwood, Tigard, and Washington County areas since 1986. We now offer a full line of solid waste and recycling services for residential, commercial, multi-family and industrial customers.
Pride Disposal is proud to serve you.
Pride Disposal has grown to employ 63 dedicated professionals: fifteen Customer Service Representatives and Administrative Personnel, thirty-two Drivers, nine Mechanics, and seven Supervisors.
We have a fleet of forty-one trucks to serve you.
A Few of Pride's Accomplishments
  • Pride Disposal was the first hauler in Washington County to co-mingle recycle pick up for residential customers. Co-mingle recycling makes it easier for the customer to recycle by no longer requiring recycling to be sorted by material.
  • Pride was also one of the first haulers in Washington County to fully automate solid waste collection. Automation increases efficiency and decreases worker injury providing a more stable rate for the customer.
  • Pride has been using Biodiesel fuel in all of our trucks since September 2006.
  • In 2004, Pride was named the 2004 Recycler of the Year (Processor) by the Association of Oregon Recyclers (AOR). This award is given to "a collector or processor of recyclable materials, who has served their community or enhanced recycling through above-average customer relations, expanded recycling opportunities, or creative approaches to marketing materials."
  • Pride's Role in the Community
Pride Disposal will always strive to be part of the local community's future through its endeavors.

Pride contributes within the community it serves by contributing to scholarship funding for both Sherwood High School and Tigard High School.

Pride participates in many local activities including Sherwood Robin Hood Festival, Sherwood Cruise-In Days, Sherwood Onion Festival, Tigard Balloon Festival, Tigard and Sherwood Chambers, and numerous youth oriented activities.

Pride holds tours on site for children's groups such as Daisy Troops, Cub Scouts, and home school children. During these visits we teach the children about recycling and give them a tour of our facility.

Pride is committed to being a strong neighbor to the community it serves.
    Material Recovery Facility (MRF)
We operate our own transfer station in order to recycle as much material as possible. At the transfer station additional recycling is pulled out of commercial dry waste and kept out of the landfill.

In 2006, approximately 57,700 tons of "garbage" came through our transfer station. Of those 57,700 tons, approximately 6,500 tons was sorted out and recycled. Keeping 11% of the incoming material out of the landfill!
    Ahead of the Curve
We purchase only the most modern and state-of-the-art equipment in order to serve you quickly and economically. All of our trucks have on-board computers that tell them exactly what and where the next pick up is. All of our trucks also have four video cameras that are used for safety and customer service. There is a camera aimed at the collection point, the truck's blind spot, the hopper of the truck, and also a back up camera.
By keeping our company up to date with this modern technology, we offer customers efficiencies that others do not provide, which in turn gives you the competitive rates and great service you deserve.
    Recycling Depot
There are some items that can not be collected with the curbside recycling but can still be recycled. In order to best serve our customers, we have an on-site recycling depot where many of these items can be brought in for little to no charge (depending on the item). Please click here for more information on our recycling depot.
